Need to know about Ransomware
Even for IT people, the notion of this particular malware is super scary. Most of the time we know what to do and how to handle malware, but ransomeware, involves true criminal activity.
The consequences of ransomware can implode a business, or someone’s life. Ransomware uses powerful encryption -virtually unbreakable encryption- that locks away your programs and files as a way to blackmail and/or extort.
Unless you have an offline back-up of important data, the choice here is as simple as it is mortifying: abide or lose.
We have found an article about a hotel it happened to, and we hope you will take a moment to read it. We don’t mean to scare you, only to create awareness that this stuff is really happening.
We hope to never receive a call from a client who finds themselves trapped in the vortex of this type situation. No one in their right ethical mind would wish it on his best friend or worst enemy.
But despite the difficulty for a resolution, you should not have to go through it alone. We believe it’s important to have support in the way of explanation, to comprehend what is happening at the back-end of your digital life; support from someone who can help you forward to rebuild trust in technology by teaching you new habits of prevention.
The previously mentioned article was written by Koen Berghuis with the story courtesy of Central European News. You can read about how a ransomeware attack on a hotel affected owners and hotel guests here.
